The Painted Churches of texas: A New View presented by Dr. Ken Hafertepe Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at Noon Online
On Tuesday, October 18 at noon, Dr. Ken Hafertepe will present “The Painted Churches of Texas: A New View.” This beautifully illustrated talk will throw new light on the famous “painted churches of Texas.”
In 1983 a National Register of Historic Places thematic nomination increased awareness and appreciation of these churches, which were built and decorated between 1890 and 1920. These churches were built for German and Czech immigrants, but the architects were largely from San Antonio – notably Leo M. J. Dielmann and James Wahrenberger – as were many contractors and the painters. In this talk we will meet Bohuslav Lacian, Godfrey Flury, Fred Donecker, and Ferdinand Stockert, who painted some of the most important examples.
